Building Futures Scholarship Program

Canadian Natural’s Building Futures Scholarship Program is dedicated to supporting education, developing local talent, and building a qualified workforce for the future of the oil and natural gas industry. We are committed to helping the communities where we operate prepare for the future by developing the next generation.

Successful applicants will receive an award between $1,000 – $1,500.

The next application period for the Building Futures Scholarship Program is November 10 – December 15, 2026 for the Winter 2027 semester. A maximum of one scholarship per calendar year is disbursed to each successful applicant. 

Eligibility Requirements

These requirements align with our mission statement, reinforcing the important concept of “developing people.” To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Relationship: Be a child/dependent of a Canadian Natural employee (spouses are not eligible) and/or be an Indigenous student from a community near Canadian Natural’s operations. Indigenous applicants must provide proof of status through official identification or a letter from community leadership.
  2. Residency: Be a resident of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba for at least one year prior to submitting the application.
  3. Identification: Hold a Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN). Note: Successful applicants who are awarded a scholarship will be required to provide their SIN for Canadian federal tax reporting purposes and will receive a T4A.
  4. Academic Performance / Registration: Achieve a GPA of no less than 2.5 (approximately 70% or a C+) in a minimum of three courses in your current or previous semester.
  5. Education: Attending a post-secondary institution and enrolled in a minimum of three courses (or full-time status) in the semester you are applying for. Scholarships will not be awarded for semesters that include a paid co-op or work-term placement.
  6. Students currently employed at Canadian Natural for a work-term are not eligible to participate in the Building Futures Scholarship Program.
  7. All eligibility requirements must be met for application consideration.

Application Process

All applications meeting the above criteria undergo review by Canadian Natural’s Building Futures Advisory Committee.

Scholarships awarded based on meeting the eligibility requirements and the following criteria:

  • Grades and career plan
  • Location in relation to Canadian Natural’s operations
  • Community involvement / volunteerism
  • Reference / recommendation letter.
