Working with Horizon since Day One - Bouchier

The Bouchier Group is one of the largest First Nations companies in Fort McKay, Alberta, providing construction, maintenance and general site services to many of the major oil sands operators in the Athabasca Region. The company is owned by David Bouchier, a member of the Fort McKay First Nation, and his wife Nicole Bourque-Bouchier, a member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation.

Bouchier started working with Canadian Natural during the Horizon Oil Sands project construction stage. Since then, the company grew from three people and one piece of equipment to over 700 dedicated staff and a fleet of more than 200 pieces of equipment and 50 vehicles. Aboriginal employees represent 60 per cent of their workforce at any given time.

According to Bouchier, working for Canadian Natural opened the doors of opportunity. “Canadian Natural has given us the opportunity to grow and expand our business. Safety is very impressive at Canadian Natural, as is the respect they show for the environment. Being a resident of Fort McKay, this is very important to me and my family. They have a great working relationship with the community and work hard to keep communication open,” says Bouchier.

Over the years, Bouchier also helped develop Wāpan Sākahikan, our Horizon Compensation Lake and site greening projects. The Bouchier Group continues to provide safe and reliable support to our operations, offering professional services and a solid workforce.
